Gary Hokkanen Joins EKI as Vice President and Principal Hydrogeologist

EKI Environment & Water, Inc. has hired Gary Hokkanen to expand its environment and water litigation support practice. Gary will provide litigation support as a testifying expert based on his more than 39 years of experience working in the environmental consulting industry.

Gary is an engineer and hydrogeologist with extensive experience in the investigation and remediation of contaminated properties and has been retained as a testifying expert over the past 15 years. He has developed and defended opinions relating to a wide variety of sites and contaminants involving cost allocation, National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP) compliance, groundwater flow systems, fate and transport of contaminants in groundwater, standard of care, and source identification. Gary has developed numerous expert reports, been deposed over 20 times, and testified in five trials.

“Gary’s expertise brings a greater depth to EKI’s litigation support practice, which means more resources for our clients,“ said Dr. Michelle King, President of EKI. EKI’s litigation practice provides clients assistance with technical strategy to support cases, recouping their expenses under recovery rights available under CERLA as well as litigation support and expert testimony relating to water supply issues and groundwater resources

Gary started his career in 1980 at the Region 9 office of the US Environmental Protection Agency and helped develop the first Superfund National Priority List. He has been in the environmental consulting field since and has worked on numerous contaminated sites in over 30 states and Canada.
