Anona Dutton to organize and moderate panel discussions at the Fourth Annual GSA Summit

What important lessons have groundwater managers, regulators, and technical experts learned from Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) development and implementation? Join the Groundwater Resources Association of California for their Fourth Annual GSA Summit: Working Towards Implementation on 9-10 June 2021. Learn from experts, join panel presentations, and participate in round table discussions at this interactive virtual conference

Anona Dutton, EKI’s Director of Water Resources, and a leading voice in Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) implementation, has organized and will moderate two key sessions:

SGMA Allocation & Trading – Challenges, Opportunities, and Implementation (Wednesday, 9 June 2021, from 9:20 am – 10:50 am). Panelists will discuss the challenges, opportunities, and ongoing implementation efforts in California’s groundwater basins. The session will focus on friction from the development of water budgets and the water rights framework which dictates who has rights to certain quantities and types of water. The integration of groundwater allocations and trading is both novel and crucial to the successful implementation of SGMA in many of the state’s basins, do not miss this opportunity to learn more!

Water Quality and SGMA: Data Challenges and Coordination with Existing Programs (Thursday, 10 June 2021 from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm). Panelists from various regions will discuss the role of Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) in collecting data, and managing and enforcing water quality. This session will explore questions around: how water quality affects water quantity and availability and what it means for implementation, regulatory and stakeholder coordination and education.
