Dr. Chen has several years of experience performing and conducting engineering services for integrated water resources management, hydrology and data science projects. His specialty includes developing state-of-the-art data driven statistical approaches to understand and forecast water demand patterns, implementing and designing decision support systems; building and augmenting data visualization dashboards to support and engage stakeholders to make informed management actions and decisions. He provides technical support for water resources projects that involve numerical modeling, statistical analysis, data processing and advanced visualizations, including analysis with R, Python, ArcGIS, MODFLOW and Google Earth Engine.
His expertise in novel machine learning, deep learning and data-driven approaches expand EKI’s modeling capabilities and domain. Dr. Chen has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles related to deep learning, watershed ecosystem modeling, subsurface heterogeneity and site characterization, and has presented at conferences on topics including Decision Support Tools (DSTs), hybrid data-driven models for groundwater system modeling, and statistical-informed causation analysis.
