Waste Management

The need for cost-effective waste management solutions is a critical aspect of any redevelopment or remediation project. EKI provides technical support to clients who are faced with managing and disposing of remediation waste and waste materials generated at their facilities.

EKI offers comprehensive waste management support — from non-hazardous to RCRA-hazardous and TSCA regulated waste — tailored to the challenges of environmental redevelopment and remediation projects, as well as waste generated during day-to-day operations. EKI prioritizes our clients’ project goals and regulatory compliance by developing cost-effective, technically sound waste solutions for each site, including on-site reuse and recycling, as well as waste characterization and profiling to support off-site disposal or treatment at permitted facilities. EKI’s expertise lies in managing state and federal hazardous and non-hazardous waste, including solid and liquid wastes containing metals, organic compounds, petroleum hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) compounds, and other substances.

EKI’s clients include manufacturers, construction companies, real estate developers, and government agencies. Whether it’s a developer cleaning up a contaminated site for new construction, a property owner addressing contamination issues at their site, or a government agency overseeing public health and safety, EKI works closely with each client to develop customized waste management plans that address their specific challenges and goals.

EKI begins by conducting thorough assessments to understand the scope and nature of the waste, including identifying the appropriate regulatory program or programs that regulate its handling. EKI routinely pre characterizes in-situ impacted media or materials before they become waste. EKI’s team of experts then designs and implements tailored strategies for material removal, onsite storage, treatment, reuse, or offsite disposal. We partner with state-of-the-art laboratories and advise contractors on safety protocols to ensure that all waste is managed responsibly and in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. EKI works to find options to reuse and divert as much material as possible, working with a wide range of disposal facilities and brokers to identify appropriate options for each project.

EKI also supports clients with both federally mandated and state-based hazardous waste reporting requirements. Our experience includes, but is not limited to, the preparation and submittal of Biennial Hazardous Waste Reports (HWR), Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) Reports, PCB Annual Document Logs, and Annual Reports.
EKI combines extensive experience with federal standards and practical management of stricter state regulations to deliver cost-effective, project-specific, defensible solutions across all jurisdictions.
