EKI Assists Teasdale Latin Foods with Industrial Wastewater Treatment Project

When Teasdale Latin Foods needed to rethink how their Atwater, California facility manages water across a dozen different process streams, each with its own chemistry and challenges, the solution wasn’t a larger wastewater treatment system. Teasdale needed an engineering partner who would start by understanding operations, not just designing a treatment system.

That’s where EKI came in.

Here’s how we approached it 👇

🔍 We started with operations, not the wastewater. Before recommending any technology, our team spent valuable time understanding Teasdale’s operations. We then conducted wastewater characterization across every stream including bean soak water, lye water, hominy rinse & cook water, cooling water, and more. We built water and mass balance models to understand exactly where water was being used, lost, and overused. With our deep understanding of operations and wastewater stream characteristics, we could then focus on the treatment that made the most sense. 

⚡ We identified targeted treatment opportunities.  EKI identified opportunities to segregate and manage individual process waters based on their unique characteristics. This allowed treatment and reuse efforts to focus where they delivered the greatest benefit, reducing both treatment complexity and lifecycle costs.

🧪 We pilot-tested before we committed. Technologies like VSEP membrane filtration and centrifuge-based lye water recovery were rigorously tested at pilot scale before being selected for the permanent design. No guesswork. No surprises.

The result? A fully integrated, targeted wastewater management solution that includes:✅ Operational changes ✅ VSEP membrane filtration + reverse osmosis ✅ Centrifuge-based lye water recovery ✅ Closed-loop flume water recycling ✅ Cooling tower reuse

All designed to maximize water recovery while improving operational efficiency.
